Tudor Petru FABIAN (Policy advisor, European Parliament):

The Geopolitics of Critical Raw Materials – a Role for the European Union?

EN: 70 years ago, the basis of the European Union has been created around the economy of two strategic mineral raw materials: coal and steel (as the European Coal and Steel Community). Even though the role of mineral resources in our economy and society has been recognized, the provision of important raw materials continued to be largely based on external resources. In 2009-2010, the debates around the global REE crisis led again the EU to recognize that sustainable economy and growing demand for high and green technologies is not possible without a common action plan and securing the supply of critical minerals.

We invite you to review by our invited speaker the geopolitics and recent developments of the EU on critical and conflicting minerals, and to discuss about the role of geoscientists in this framework. Presentation will be in English, follow-up questions and discussions are welcome in English, Hungarian and Romanian.

Kind regards / tisztelettel / cu stimă:
